Strength and Conditioning is directed by Carlo Alvarez. Coach Alvarez works closely with all interscholastic athletes and coaches at the Upper School and teaches in the Physical Education Department. He has extensive experience having served as the Director of Sports Performance for both the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds of MLB, on the strength and conditioning staffs at both the University of Notre Dame and the University of Cincinnati, and as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at Saint Xavier High School in Cincinnati.
Coach Alvarez brought all his experience in emotional, mental and physical development to the creation of US’s Strength and Conditioning program. This grade-by-grade athlete development model is built around annual plans with the goal of equipping each boy to maximize his academic and on-the-field success. The age-appropriate routines are designed to build body awareness, relative strength, proper exercise technique, and stability and mobility.
