Jack Somers was appointed Varsity Cross Country Coach at University School in 2025. Coach Somers previously served as the program’s assistant coach from 2006 to 2014 and as head coach from 2015 to 2021.
He also teaches English at US. During his time as coach and assistant coach, he led the team to nine Regional Meet appearances and four State Meet qualifications. He also coached two Regional champions, including the fastest 5K runner in school history. Coach Somers’s 2018 team was the first in school history to qualify for the Division I State Meet after qualifying for the Division I Regional Meet in 2017.
Mr. Somers has coached several athletes who went on to compete at the college level after setting University School records and earning All-Ohio recognition. Mr. Somers earned his bachelor of arts degree from Georgetown University and his master of arts degree in teaching from Brown University. He and his wife, Joanna, have four children: Jane, Henry, Margaret, and Anne.
