John Ptacek was appointed Varsity Soccer Coach at University School in 2008. He also serves as the Athletic Director and Physical Education Chair for the Upper School.
During his time at US, Mr. Ptacek’s teams have advanced to the Regional Final three times and have won five District titles. The Varsity Soccer team has earned Academic and Sportsmanship awards from the NSCAA and the OSSCA under Mr. Ptacek’s tutelage. Several of Mr. Ptacek’s players have gone on to compete at the NCAA Division I and Division III levels after earning All-Ohio and All-Region recognition.
After his professional playing career with the Cleveland White Caps ended, Mr. Ptacek coached at Nordonia High School and Walsh Jesuit High School.
Mr. Ptacek earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Akron where he was a standout for the Zips’ nationally ranked program. He and his wife, Carmen, have three children: Elisabeth, Aiden ‘23, and Caroline.
