Rob McNerney was named Varsity Baseball Coach at University School in 2020.
Mr. McNerney is the 26th Head Coach in the history of University School Baseball, a program that dates back to 1893. The program has won 27 conference championships and a District Titles in 1992. and 2022. Over the years, countless US Baseball players have gone on to compete at the NCAA Division I, Division II, and Division III levels.
In 2022, Coach McNerney’s club broke the school record for wins in a season (23), won the District Tournament for the first time since 1992, and finished the season ranked #11 in the State.
Mr. McNerney previously served as the Varsity Baseball Coach at his alma mater, Western Reserve Academy. Additionally, Coach McNerney has been active in Cleveland’s summer baseball landscape for more than a decade. Since 2014, he has served as the Vice President and General Manager for Ohio Elite Baseball. While in that role, Mr. McNerney has served as head coach for several of the club’s teams, including 17u and 18u.
From 2009-14, Mr. McNerney served as a head coach in the Diamond Boys Baseball Club, overseeing teams ranging from ages 10 to 15. During that time, he also worked as a scout for Prep Baseball Report, covering amateur baseball in Northeast Ohio.
A 2007 graduate of Gannon University, Coach McNerney, captained the Knights during his senior season. He and his wife, Kaitlyn, have 3 children: Keira, Karson, and Ryder.
