Strength & Conditioning
Strength and Conditioning is directed by Carlo Alvarez. Coach Alvarez works closely with all interscholastic athletes and coaches at the Upper School and teaches in the Physical Education Department.
He has brought all his experience in emotional, mental, and physical development to the creation of US’s Strength and Conditioning program. This grade-by-grade athlete development model is built around annual plans with the goal of equipping each boy to maximize his academic and on-the-field success. The age-appropriate routines are designed to build body awareness, relative strength, proper exercise technique, and stability and mobility.
Coach Alvarez has led an impressive career as a coach, consultant, and connector in his 28 years in the strength and conditioning industry. He has extensive experience having served as the Head of Sports Performance for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Head of Strength and Conditioning for the Cincinnati Reds, Latin American Coordinator for the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians), Director of Strength and Conditioning for St. Xavier High School, Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Notre Dame, VP of Product Development for Motus Global, and VP of Strategy and Innovation for Dynamic.

He has a Master of Education in Sports Administration from Xavier University, a Master of Science in Management from the University of Notre Dame, and a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and Exercise Science from the University of Cincinnati.
Coach Alvarez has worked closely with some of the most iconic brands in the sports world, including Nike, Gatorade, Adidas, Under Armour, and Hammer Strength, helping with strategic initiatives to develop and deploy services to improve messaging, brand design, educational content, and implementation methods for the youth, high school, and elite athlete.
